THE IMAX NUTCRACKER - 3D
(October 1997: 40 Minutes)

A wonderful enchanted kingdom of spun sugar, ruled by a wooden soldier prince, will spring to life through the magic of the IMAX medium. Set in present-day London, and featuring a cast of more than 150 performers, it is the grandest, most ambitious dramatic interpretation of The Nutcracker and Imax's biggest production ever.

This contemporary rendition of E.T.A. Hoffmann's 19th century tale is directed and written by Christine Edzard, internationally renowned writer, director and costume designer. She is best known for her adaptation of the Charles Dickens' classic Little Dorrit, starring Sir Alec Guinness, which received an Oscar® nomination for Best Screenplay in 1988.

Intricately detailed sets were designed to support the film's army of actors, mimes and acrobats. Miriam Margolyes, who appeared in films such as The Age of Innocence, Dead Again, and Babe, leads the cast of acclaimed English actors which includes Heathcote Williams, Patrick Pearson, Harriet Thorpe, and introduces Lotte Johnson and Benjamin Hall.

Produced by IMAX Corporation in association with Sands Films Ltd., The IMAX Nutcracker will feature Tchaikovsky's unforgettable score performed by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Executive Produced by Andrew Gellis.
